Instructor & Coach Requirements (accreditation/reaccreditation)

Want to become (or reaccredit) as an Instructor or Coach?
Use the steps below to understand what's required for each accreditation:

Step 1: Select your role

Use the dropdown menus on our Role Requirements page to select your role, and see the specific requirements needed for your accreditation.

Step 2: Understand the process

Getting started is simple — much of the learning is online and completely free.

Most accreditations follow this process:

  1. Choose your discipline-specific role and review the accreditation requirements
  2. Complete the required online e-learning for that role
  3. Register for and then attend the required face-to-face training course

Step 3: Staying compliant once accredited

Holding an Australian Sailing accreditation qualifies you as an Instructor or Coach — but you must also stay compliant with state/territory laws and the policies of the organisation you deliver programs for.

To remain current, ensure the following certifications are valid:

  • Working with Children Check (WWCC) – or equivalent, based on your state or territory
  • Maritime Licence – if required for your role or location
  • Marine Radio Certificate – if applicable
  • First Aid Certificate – HLTAID011 (Provide First Aid) or higher

These requirements help ensure all accredited Instructors and Coaches meet the necessary legal and safety standards when delivering programs.

Step 4: Adding another accrediation?

Once you’ve completed a full accreditation — including the two-day face-to-face course — gaining additional accreditations is faster and easier.

Because many core e-learning modules are shared across roles, you’ll usually only need to:

  • Complete the discipline-specific e-learning, and
  • Attend a 1-day face-to-face course for that role

No need to repeat the full program — making it simpler to expand your qualifications across multiple disciplines.
