Zimmermann Announced SA State Performance Program Coach and SA Performance Pathway Officer

Alex Zimmermann has been appointed in a combined role of South Australia State Performance Program Coach and South Australia Performance Pathway Officer.  Alex’s duties include coaching within the SA underpinning program (SA Sailing Team (SAST) primarily in Optimist & Laser classes, and the coaching and management arrangements for the four 420 athletes currently on Performance Program scholarship in SA. Part time coaches are also in place to support Alex with the SAST.

Alex is Peruvian with an Australian Permanent Residency and has completed tertiary education in Perth over the past few years with majors in Management and HR. He has coached Australian Optimist teams at World and other major events in recent years alongside being the WA State Optimist Coach.  Alex is a World, Continental and National Champion with experience in Optimist, Sunfish and all the Laser classes; representing Peru at numerous Optimist Worlds & Continentals, ISAF Youth Worlds, PanAm Games, and South American Games as well as campaigning for London 2012 in the laser standard. He commenced SA duties on the 19th August 2016 with the SAST Induction evening.

Alex’s  key focus areas are, building critical mass at clubs to be able to then provide suitable pathway options at all levels in the sport.

Alex is keen to:
• Build a holistic approach to competitive sailing
• Turn weaknesses into strengths
• Closely collaborate with the support staff to better athlete performance
• Focus on performance, results will fall naturally
• Address groundwork for fitness, technique and nutrition.
