Sad Day for Victorian Sailing

It is with sadness that we pay tribute to Max Peters who passed away after falling overboard when his boat “Top Gun” broached in the bay off Brighton while competing for the Royal Yacht Club of Victoria in the 2018 Association Cup.

Our sincere appreciation goes out to all those that assisted with the rescue effort during the race. The crew of Vertigo, another RYCV boat in the race who tried valiantly to rescue Max while waiting for the support vessels to reach the scene, and the course boat and race management team that effected the rescue and implemented CPR.

A true gentleman of the sport, Max has been a part of the Victorian Sailing community for 50+ years. A member at McCrae and Blairgowrie, Max spent the last 34 years as a member of the Royal Yacht Club of Victoria.

Over his time in the sport Max has won numerous awards at both his club and within the Range Series, now known as the Nautilus Marine Series as well as being part of the RYCV Association Cup team that has won this prestigious trophy many times.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family, crew and friends
