DOUBLE CELEBRATION FOR MACGLIDE FESTIVAL OF SAILS’ STALWART

Billy Parker had double the reason to celebrate yesterday at the MacGlide Festival of Sails. The Royal Geelong Yacht Club stalwart celebrated his 82nd birthday yesterday with a big day at sea. He and his crew won the Cruising Non-Spinnaker division in the 34 nautical mile Passage Race from Williamstown to Geelong.

Para Sailing Champions decided in Melbourne

The Australian Para Sailing Championships were held as part of the Sail Melbourne International Regatta at Royal Brighton Yacht Club over the past week.  Sailed in conjunction with open fleet racing in the 2.4mR and Liberty classes, the race scores of eligible para sailors were extracted to decide the Australian Para Sailing Champions.

Prieto-Low back to challenge the JESS Match Cup

After a thrilling end to the event last season where Matt Jerwood took the win 3-1 in the final series, Ethan Prieto-Low is back at the JESS Match Cup for his third try at a win. Having placed third and then second in previous years, this time he is better prepared. After his best result yet at the Grade 2 Warren Jones International Youth Regatta in January, with a 6th place, he headed to the USA to compete in the 2019 Grand Slam Series.

World Championship sailors support bushfire effort

The proximity of the upcoming 49er, 49erFX and Nacra 17 Oceania and World Championships course area to some of the bushfires currently burning in the southern Australian state of Victoria has stirred the international sailing community to action. Smoke haze from fires in East Gippsland and the state’s north-east have impacted Geelong’s air quality and competitors are all too aware of the devastating fallout from fires now Australia-wide.

I14 2020 Perth World Championships

It’s a wrap. The CST Composites i14 2020 Perth World Championships at the Perth Dinghy Sailing Club came to an end on Friday with the Brits taking the three podium finishes in what some would say difficult conditions in Perth.
