COVID-19 restrictions in Victoria

Australian Sailing is working with a number of government agencies to gain clarity around the easing of COVID-19 restrictions in Victoria starting at midnight Tuesday the 12th May. We are also working on back to sailing and work protocols that will help guide clubs through the easing of restrictions.

I regrettably inform our Queensland sailing community that our Australian Sailing North Queensland Club Services Officer Mathew Himson has submitted his resignation. Mat has played a very active role in our North Queensland Sailing Community for the last number of years and since September 2019 as a Club Services Officer.

Are too few doing too much?

Since COVID-19 has rocked our world, Club Services Officers have been checking in with club committee members and most of them are sighing with relief at the break that COVID-19 is providing them with.  One said this was the first break he’s had for ten years from an every weekend commitment to his club. Another was just grateful to be able to focus on other projects and not think about the running of the club.

“The Associations Incorporation Act 1981 requires an association’s annual general meeting (AGM) to be held within 6 months of the end of their financial year. There is an existing provision in the Act (s. 121) that allows the chief executive to grant an extension to an association for holding its AGM.

Down time means gardening time at Darwin Sailing Club

After the Darwin Sailing Club was forced to stand down their staff in March things were not looking good for the club grounds as gardening was not the highest priority. A number of green thumbed senior members led by Lindsey Wharton took matters into their own hands.
