Hillarys Yacht Club is set to host what it hopes will be one of Perth’s biggest ever dinghy coaching and sailing regattas next Easter.
Known as Sail Easter, the club is aiming to attract more than 75 dinghy sailors from Perth and the regions to its inaugural event commencing on Friday March 30.
Hillarys Yacht Club commodore, Neil Harrison, says the club is expecting to attract sailors from a number of dinghy classes including optimists, tasars, 420s, lasers, hobies and nacre multi-hull yachts.
Racing is expected to take place on both the north and south sides of the marina to give competitors the greatest breadth of sailing conditions and experiences.
The yacht club is currently negotiating with a number of class coaches to advise sailors over the Easter weekend.
“Coaching regattas are a highly effective and internationally recognised way of accelerating competitive sailing skills,” said Mr Harrison.
“Hillarys offers both relatively calm and challenging open water sailing and is already a popular training venue for river sailors wanting to fine-tune their competitive skills before state and national titles,” he said.
“We are very confident of attracting sailors and families to the club which is an integral part of the Hillarys marina complex comprising the Sorrento Quay café, restaurant and shopping precinct,” said Mr Harrison.
