The South Gippsland Yacht Club Regatta subcommittee has been working with partners and sponsors to put together the 2018 Australia Day Weekend event. As a result of the interest from classic and historic wooden dinghy owners from around Australia, we believe this will be a great event and one not to be missed.
In 2018 Inverloch and the Moth community will be celebrating 90 years since Len Morris Launched his Inverloch 11 Footer on Anderson Inlet Inverloch.
Marion Chapman’s heritage poster for 2018 depicts when the Inverloch 11 footer became the Moth.
Bob Parry, Moth historian, interviewed many of the families of the early Moth sailors and from his notes “Jack Newey recalls that one night working by the light of kerosene lanterns his mother, Mrs Morris and Mrs Gidney sat around the kitchen table cutting out Moth shapes and sewing them by hand onto their sails, this would have been in late 1933.” This was the start of the ‘Moth Class’ formerly the ‘Inverloch 11 Foot Class’.
The Regatta poster is a whimsical reference to the carnival atmosphere of past Regatta Days.
The posters will be out shortly followed by an Invitation to attend the Regatta and all the details for entering classic and historic wooden dinghies and Moths of all forms.
