Applications to deliver Safety & Sea Survival courses

Safety and Sea Survival courses can only be delivered at Australian Sailing Training Centres who employ a current Safety and Sea Survival Instructor.  As part of the application process, Australian Sailing will ask to view your presentation material, safety management system, and confirm that suitable teaching aids are available.  It is normal practice for the Chief Instructor to conduct an initial review and observe part of the first training course.  If you are considering becoming, or require additional information about becoming a Training Centre please contact Australian Sailing on (02) 8424 7453 or by email training@sailing.org.au.

Prior to application you should download and read the latest Operating Standards and Guidelines for Recognition which can be found on the Forms page.

Delivering SSS Courses

Training is only to be delivered by current SSS Instructors.  The maximum ratio for practical delivery is 10 students to one AS SSS Instructor.  The maximum ratio for theory sessions is 20 students to one AS SSS Instructor.  Each student shall receive a SSS course pack (this also applies to update courses) that contains a textbook, written feedback form/answer sheet and may include safety flyers and stickers.  Course packs can only be purchased from the Online Shop by persons who have been granted access.  Each pack contains all the relevant course paperwork, with the exception of a cover sheet.

Note: Australian Sailing members must provide their AS number to ensure that they will receive notification on their membership card. If their membership number is not known, then the Club must be specified. If a participant is not a Australian Sailing member or does not supply this information, they will not receive a membership card with the SSSC information.

All participants on Australian Sailing Safety and Sea Survival Courses must be registered with Australian Sailing (through myCentre) as soon after the course as is possible* in order to be issued with a nationally recognised certificate in a reasonable timeframe.

* Recommended 2-week turnaround.
