Participants in the RYA Cruising programs and courses come from many different backgrounds and have diverse aspirations. Instructors therefore need a multitude of skills which they can adapt to the type of boat and the capabilities of their students.
The first step in teaching within our program is to become qualified as a Cruising Instructor before moving up to the Yachtmaster® Instructor qualification. Qualifications can be gained to teach both sail and motor cruising courses and your certificate will be endorsed accordingly. Practical Instructor qualifications must be renewed every five years.
You also have the option of becoming a Shorebased (theory) Instructor or a specialised Diesel or Radar instructor.
Practical Cruising and Yachtmaster® Instructors must hold the MCA commercial endorsement and satisfy National Maritime Law by holding the applicable Certificate of Competence. For more information click here.
