When you first learn to sail or drive a powerboat you are embarking upon a journey that could lead to a career if that was you wished. Many Yachting Australia qualifcations and all of the experience that you gain have some value in the commercial world. Most people that work in the sailing or Yachting industry are not paid for their racing skills.
The types of work that people are engaged in vary widely and the Yachting Australia qualfication may not be the only qualifcation that is required. For more information on where Yachting Australia qualifications can take you click on the following link.

| Yachting Australia has gained recognition as a Registered Training Organisation (RTO). This allows Yachting Australia to deliver training, conduct assessments and issue nationally recognised certification for approved 'units of competence'.
Yachting Australia's application and recognition is for four units from the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment qualification (TAA40104):
TAADEL301C - Provide training through instruction and demonstration of work skills
TAAASS401C - Plan and organise assessment
TAAASS402C - Assess competence
TAAASS404B - Participate in assessment validation
Yachting Australia has aligned these units of competence to two courses relating to the training and assessment of Yachting Australia Instructors and the newly introduced Assessors Courses.
By following the link on this page you can find out more about each of these courses and how you can become involved. There is also information about how you can gain certification via Recognition of Prior Learning, meaning that for current instructors you may be able to gain certification by providing evidence of what you currently do in your workplace (voluntary or paid) without having to attend the course.
