Yachting Australia is the peak body for all forms of yachting, both power and sail, throughout Australia. It is a diverse organisation with responsibilities including:
The Promotion of Sailing
The promotion of the sport in all it's aspects, including building awareness through increased media exposure ensuring that pathways into the sport are clear and unambiguous and encouraging the provision of local facilities offering a safe, successful and enjoyable introduction.
The Management of Training
The development and management of a series of National Training and Certificate Programs for all activities for which Yachting Australia has responsibility, including windsurfing, small boat and yacht sailing and power boating.
The Development of Athletes
The development and management of National Coaching Programs for all forms of competitive sailing at local, State and National level, including the coaching of nationally representative teams to World Championships and Olympic Games and a Coach Education and Accreditation program.
The Selection of Teams
The selection of Australian representative teams to World Championships and the nomination, to the Australian Olympic Committee, of the team to attend the Olympic Games.
The Support of Sailors
The support of competitors traveling to international events, including the distribution of grants, the provision of coaching support and the organisation of services such as shipping, travel and accommodation.
The Coordination of Events
The coordination of all competitive events, including providing approval and seeking grant support for major international regattas in Australia including World Championships and the Sail DownUnder Series for Olympic Classes and the coordination of the Australian Sailing Calendar of major national events.
The Governance of the Sport
The proper governance of the sport in Australia, including the development and maintenance of appropriate rules and regulations, the coordination of safety standards for all forms of boating, the measurement and registration of boats and the issue of racing certificates.
The Servicing of Members
The provision of services to some 35,000 direct members Australia-wide, including the provision of appropriate insurance cover, the development of commercial benefits and the provision of information through regular communication.
