Australian Sailing Marks International Women’s Day

Australian Sailing Vice-President Sarah Kenny believes sailing offers girls and women an avenue through which to gain confidence in various areas of their lives.

Kenny said her own experience was that the skills she learned by participating in the sport from a young age gave her a mindset of being "able to pretty much tackle everything, not just in sailing but in life and in a career".

Kenny's International Women's Day message was backed by round-the-world sailor Jessica Watson, who said there was something in sailing for all girls and women, "all levels of fitness, enthusiasm" and that it special to be able to "get on the water, learn something new and make new friends".

Kenny and Watson were among a group of five high-achieving women in sailing, who were featured in an article in Sydney's The Daily Telegraph newspaper. Read the article here.
