The Darwin to Ambon Yacht Race is an annual event that is run under the umbrella of the Sister City Program between Ambon City and Darwin City. The event is supported by the Indonesian Ministry of Culture & Tourism & Ambon City Government, together with the Dinah Beach Cruising Yacht Association, the Northern Territory Government and the City of Darwin.
The race has 4 divisions: IRC Racing, Premier Cruising Multihull, Premier Cruising Monohull and a Rally Division.
Sailors of all levels are welcome to join the race with some cruising yachts arriving six days after the start with just as fierce and friendly a competition as the racing fleet. The south-easterly Trade Winds provide a wonderful spinnaker run, while the tropical waters and magnificent archipelago provide a spectacular place to do battle or just contemplate life – truly “blue water classic” and “champagne” sailing.
The current record is held by Antipodes, the Hong Kong based yacht owned by Geoff Hill, In 2016 Antipodes broke the race record by 1hr and 20min. The previous record of 53hrs and 49mins, held by Zuma and skippered by John Punch, had stood since 1998.
2017 race will start on 5th August 2017 from Darwin, Australia. The Notice of Race has been published and we are currently calling for Expressions of Interest from interested yachts. For more information go to our website www.darwinambonrace.com.au or email firstname.lastname@example.org
